Grand Electric Muskoka

For most people, heading to the cottage during the summer months is a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.  But if you're a foodie it's hard not to be excited about Toronto hotspot Grand Electric opening in Port Carling.  The Mexican restaurant brings its hipster vibes, mouth-watering tacos and boozy cocktails to Muskoka and you can enjoy it all sitting right on their patio overlooking Lake Rosseau.
Open from Thursday to Sunday (hours vary) the expansive deck and cottagey interior complete with retro wooden tables and chairs and a wooden picnic table will hopefully help expedite wait times - which in Toronto can sometimes run up to two hours.  Both locations do not take reservations.
The menu includes some of Grand Electric's staple tacos like the Baja fish, pork carnitas and crispy cauliflower and a new one for us the spicy shrimp (which wasn't so spicy).  The tuna ceviche tostada with lime marinated tuna, herb salad and avocado mayo is a generous portion and perfect to fill you up after a few tacos.  Dishes are a bit more expensive than its sister restaurant in TO but it doesn't come as much of a surprise because apparently everything is more expensive in Muskoka.
Drink-wise we recommend the clydesdale which is loaded with bourbon, grapefruit juice, lime and agave.  It's so good you'll want to make a round right when you get back to the cottage.  They also have plenty of red and white wine, beer, cava and other refreshing summer cocktails.  For dessert share the key lime pie in a cup and dig deep with your spoons to get every last crumb.
